Even Closer to Adulthood

I'm sure most of you know by now that we put an offer on a house this weekend and they accepted! So if the appraisal goes well and the inspection doesn't show signs of a money pit, it's ours and we move in on St. Patty's day. So you can show up in green to help us move! (but I promise if you help us move I won't pinch you no matter what color you are wearing) Three of our wonderful friends here have just bought houses too, so it is nice to have others going through the same right of passage as we are. Today's question is what is your advice on packing? I've done it several times between dorms and apartments, but never with as much stuff as we have now.

Take the opportunity to purge purge purge. There's no time like moving to get rid of stuff and start fresh in your new house. Dad and I are so happy for you guys. Okay, so we wish it were a little closer to Oregon, but we're still so so happy for you. Hope the inspection and appraisal go well. Can't wait to come it for ourselves.

Your mom is right. If you haven't used it in 6 months or so, chunk it. Chances are you won't use it in your new house.

Also, try to pack as organized as you can. Be sure to properly label your boxes (i.e., master bedroom, kitchen, etc). Try to avoid just stuffing random things in random boxes!

But, most of all, just have fun & enjoy it...you'll only move to your first house once!

Good luck!

Yes,do label your boxes. Also, articles have been written on the subject somewhere. Something about packing stuff last that you will need or want right away or where you can easily find it such as silverware, glasses, papertowels, toilet paper. The sooner you start packing the easier it will probably be, especially since you don't want to accidently leave anything behind. Have fun!

1st~I better be one of those wonderful friends you mentioned.
2nd~anytime is a good time to purge! Especially while moving..and remember to offer your goods to those wonderful friends you mentioned! :)
3rd~I canNOT give moving advice seeing as how I only packed up 4 boxes and then hand-carried everything else to the car. that might be why our new house is a little messy still! :)

Start packing now! Every time I have moved it seems to sneak up on me how much stuff I have until I try to get it all put in boxes.

I can't wait to you guys get all moved in.

I never really had to pack since the military always did it for me. You should start packing now however. The sooner you get a lot of the little things out of the way and throw items away you don't need anymore, the faster the move will be. Another thing is to pack one room at a time to ensure they get properly labeled and into the right room in the next house. Good Luck! I love the new house.

I'm so excited for you guys! I've not heard anything about this though. Where is the new house at? I have a wedding to attend on St. Patty's day so I can't help you move. BUT...if you ever need help painting or anything, I love to do that! Good luck with everything.

When we moved in August we had some people help us. One of the guys had a lot of sisters that he's helped move a lot. When it came time to do our closet he threw down a blanket, grabbed a bunch of clothes on hangers, probably about 30 or so pieces of clothing, and laid them down on the blanket, all on hangers still. Then he wrapped them up in the blanket and wrapped tape all around them - so the clothes didn't fall out or get dirty. Then when you get to your new house, you just unwrap and put into your new closet!! It was wonderful - a trick I won't forget. Congratulations on your new home!
