Where the Red Fern Grows

While on our nature hike at Camp Yamhill in Oregon....

Me: (pointing to plants covering the ground) Hey, those look like ferns!
Ryan: They are ferns.
Me: They grow on the ground?
Ryan: Where did you think they grew?
Me: porches

I guess I never really thought about "wild" ferns and where they grew (besides on dogs' graves in really sad movies that children should never have to watch in school) but maybe I thought it was a tree.

I too cried like a baby when my mom read us this story about 44 years ago. I love ferns though. I wish I had my moms green thumb so I could make them live on my porch. Mom I

We planted ferns outside at our house (Justin's idea) and I thought we were the only ones in the world who did that...I always thought they were a potted plant. Who knew! :)
