How to get a good tip

This post could also be titled "the nicest person in the world" or "the power of a pregnant woman" and I had a hard time choosing. Today I experienced the most random act of kindness from anyone and it goes WAY beyond offering the pregnant lady your seat or opening a door for her. Today some of the church staff was eating at the Elephant Bar and our waitress, who was brand new, overheard us discussing dessert. She must've heard me mention that the only reason I come to that restaurant is for the giant ice cream cookie sandwich dessert because she interrupted me with bad news: they were getting a new menu and that was no longer available. We kidded around with her about how bummed I was and the guys mentioned that I was pregnant and it wasn't just me that needed that dessert but my baby too! Anyway during the middle of our meal she informed us she was trying to pull some strings for us in the dessert dept. At the end of dinner she brings out the giant ice cream cookie and said she had called her husband to go scour the city (and they are new in town) and find giant cookies big enough so that they could make this dessert for me!!! Her husband, who doesn't even work there, who has never met me, looked for like 30 min until he found the cookies and then brought them there for their chef to add ice cream, chocolate syrup and whip cream to. If that isn't above-and-WAY-beyond service then I don't know what is. I hope I see her again so I can repay her in some way. She did get a good tip and a thank you note written by me on a paint chip from my purse but her kindness was so crazy I don't think I can repay her. Needless to say, I think I will call her manager and make sure he/she knows what an amazing waitress they have. If you are ever at Elephant Bar ask for Jill the waitress and let her know her kindness has been immortalized on my blog. And yes...the dessert was delicious :)

I think it's possible that The Elephant Bar treats their employees really well and it makes them want to treat their customers well.

We have great memories from that restaurant in Denver and it was all because of the staff and how they treated us.

So glad their are people like her in the world!

That was M-A-Zing!!! I <3 Jill, she is the absolute best (no, I've never met her), but reading about her super way and above great service, lets me know she's a gem of a person. And being pregnant does have its advantages. Hope the restaurant realizes what they have in her.

I've got a GREAT idea. Listen, check this out.

I'm in Duncan. You come over here and watch my four kids. Here at my house where they wont destroy yours.

Then I'll go the Elephant Bar with my husband, ask for Jill and complain about the dessert. Since I'm pregnant too I should some good service. Right.

Then the next day, you can sleep in my bed, of course, I'll come home and relieve you.

Now the baby only wakes up a few times. Just give him his bottle and he'll be fine.

It's funny because eating is such a mundane thing (we do it several times a day every day of our life), but it's also a special event. When a waiter or waitress waits on you it's part of a ritual, a ceremony, and they really do have the power to immortalize that meal for you.

I was the worst waitress ever and I wish I could apologize to all my customers from 15 years ago hahaha. For this woman to go to such lengths for a perfect stranger is truly special. Not only was she dealing with all the hubbub of a restaurant and her OTHER tables, but she managed to brand this moment into your brain. My hat is definitely off to her!

And lucky you!

But it was from the grill brush. I demanded to have my meal free since I refused to eat it or anything else there ever again!
