Katie's Queries

Today's question is more than one question but I'm interested to know about others blog-reading habits. And if you've never commented before this would be a great time! I'm always amazed to find out who reads this thing! (I recently learned my aunt uses my blog occassionally for child development examples in the teaching of her college class, so if you are reading this "Hello Freedies!")

1. What time of the day do you read blogs?
2. How many blogs do you read or subscribe to?
3. By what method to you read and check blogs?

I use Google Reader to subscribe to blogs (for those of you who don't know what this is, it lets me only see blogs that have been updated so I don't have to click on a bunch of links to only find out they haven't posted) and I recently deleted quite a few but I currently subscribe to 106 blogs...but some of them haven't posted in quite awhile. They range from personal blogs, famous blogs, craft blogs, interior design blogs and humorous blogs. I try to limit my computer time to just when Olivia is asleep so I check it in the morning when I wake up, during her nap time, and in the evening. I feel best when there is no scroll bar in my google reader column....but they don't have to be all read everyday.

I read them usually at night after Milo is in bed but sometimes I'll try and catch up during naptime. I subscribe to around 30 and some days think it's too many, other days I think I should find more to read, and I too use Google reader to minimize clicking.

I read blogs during Alice's nap time after lunch. I only faithfully keep up with 10 or 11 blogs. But every now and then I'll link over to a random one and follow it for a while. I don't use any special method to keep up with them, but I'm going to have to look in to the Google Reader so I can remember to look at those random ones I come across. (BTW, I'm in awe of your blogging skillz).

I read it whenever I need a break from homework. I follow 8, and I use the bookmark menu to check them to give my brain something to do when it is fried. It makes my brain feel better when it can do a mindless tasks such as "move the mouse over here and click" instead of "what's the best way to say this in English or ASL?" Jessica Van Winkle

I have no ryhme or reason to when or what I read. I only follow about 8 blogs but I often find myself reading strangers blogs until I look down at the clock and realize I've been staring at my computer for an hour, crying over some woman I've never met and how beautiful her kids are. Haha!

I generally ready them several times throughout the day during extremely slow times at work. I hardly read them at night because evenings are dedicated to my husband.

I've found that I get wrapped up in them way too easily. The way people live is so interesting to me. One of the main reasons I come back here is I love the parenting aspects you talk about. Although I don't have kids, I love them and can't wait so I often find myself reading parenting blogs.

I use google reader too – I think I have about 30 I’m subscribed to. Sometimes I look for more, but they usually don’t make it up to my standards like my typical ones. Usually read them in the morning or throughout the day. I can get them on my phone so it’s a nice thing to read while I’m waiting for something or someone. It amazes me too who reads ours . . . sometimes I feel like no one does and other times a random person from a different state will say, oh yeah I read on your blog . . . . I think I’m most in love with family blogs, even if I don’t really know the person.

It might be nice to know how to do that google thing so I know when you have updated your blog instead of just checking in a lot. Yours is the only blog I regularly read. Every few months I catch up reading your cousin Kelly's blog and Erica's blog. I think I would read them more often if I have Larry put them in the bookmark thing so I don't have to type in their blog address. A year ago or so I read the beginning episodes of the life story on the blog of Pioneer Woman. I never kept it up or even caught up close to her recent years, but I enjoyed what I did read. When you mention other blog references in your blog update, I do often go there to understand better or see more pictures of Olivia.

I try to check first thing in the morning. Checking in on my kids is a great way to start my day (especially when there are pictures of my grandkids to look at). I always check yours, Carries and Lauras regularly. There are only 3 others that I check in on occasionally. The ones I look at are in your and Lauras and Carries lists of blogs you read, so that's how I access them. Mom aka Gma)

Hi Katie! I'm not sure if we've ever met, but I found your blog a few months ago through someone else's blog, and I recognized you from OC. After reading a few of your blog posts, I realized that we have a lot in common (to name a couple: breastfeeding & cloth diapering) and I have continued to read your blog regularly ever since. :)

To answer your questions: I read blogs periodically through out the day. I read them on my phone while I'm nursing! I also use Google Reader and I'm subscribed to about 130 blogs/websites (Holy cow! I did not realize I had that many!).

I use something like Google Reader too. I like it as well because I don't have to click on each blog. I look and it tells me what blogs have been updated - saves me so much time!!! I follow 20-30 blogs of all kinds - mainly personal and craft ones! i am always looking for new ones!!! I check whenever I have a chance - mainly at night!

I check in the morning usually before I start work. I uss RSS, a bit old fashioned i guess, through Microsoft Outlook. I've been meaning to get everything in google reader but just haven't yet. I only read about 10 blogs consistently, but most of them are daily. that keeps me busy enough.

I usually read them in the morning and at night. I have them all bookmarked, about 12-14 for easier finding, although my own blog doesn't seem to be followed by many.

1)I read blogs in the morning while drinking my coffee, before my children wake up and I start my 'day'. I also read them at night after the kids go to bed on the nights my husband is at work late or working overnight.
2) I have about 20 blogs that I browse through, mostly cooking, green living type stuff. I also read a few people's 'life' blogs, such as yours!
3) I have the blogs I read saved to a favorites on my IE browser... nothing fancy.

I love reading your blog and watching your little girl grow. She is right in between the age of my 2 babies, so it is neat to remember my daughter being that age, and look forward to my son entering the stages you are going through!
