The Reason I Read

"We might imagine that we are on a boat, and that the prow of a boat penetrating the water is a choice we made, or the present thing, and that the wake following the boat is what is not chosen, the absent thing; tiny wave upon wave, growing wider and wider, finally dissolving into the universe in ways we cannot fully perceive. What is present is finite. What is absent is infinite."---The Solace of Leaving Early by Haven Kimmel

I wish I could write like this. There are a few things that come to mind after I read and re-read the above passage, but after deleting what I keep trying to type, I've decided to let it mean to you what it needs to mean to you.
